What is necessary to stage a ballet performance? This question poses itself automatically while sitting in the theatre with dimmed lights, curtains rising and the performance starting. Impressed by the perfection of the dancers, the audience sees the grace that seems to be so easy and yet had to be prepared very intensively. For the very first time the international well-known Semperoper Ballett sends its ballet dancers to sub-Saharan Africa to pursue the question that was asked at the beginning. The idea is to provide the audience insights into the daily rehearsal schedule that starts with the practice in the morning. Ballet master Raphael Coumes-Marquet will give information on the step sequences to the audience and sensitize them on the following: the choreographic development of works. It will be demonstrated based on various pas de deux by William Forsythe, one of the most famous contemporary choreographers. Which corrections are needed during the execution of moves? How do the together acting dancers coordinate themselves? How is their action and effectiveness on stage identified? Apart from the demonstration the audience is also given the opportunity to ask questions to the artists in order to get closer to the fascination of dancing.
