"Bintou" by Simone Catharina Gaul Germany 2014, 68 minutes Bintou is from Burkina Faso and loves to lead a modern lifestyle. She dreams of becoming a famous dressmaker. Suddenly her life is turned upside-down when she has to take responsibility for her own daughter again who has been living in a children’s home so far, due to Bintou’s difficult life circumstances when her daughter was born. “Bintou” is the portrait of a strong, young woman looking for her place between traditional and modern culture, between motherhood and career. http://www.ziff.or.tz/2015/06/09/bintou/ "Nani Kama Mama – No one like mother" by Judith Albrecht Tanzania 2015, 15 minutes "Nani Kama Mama – No One Like mother" deals with the issues of poverty, self-responsibility and vigilantism in Tanzania. Thieves are often beaten to death or set on fire with gasoline. A lot of Tanzanians often feel left alone which is why small criminal offenses tend to escalate easily. This much discussed topic is reflected in the film that tells the story of a boy called Pesambili who lives together with his mother in poverty. When his mother becomes seriously ill, the young man decides to raise money for the life-saving medicine. During his quest he meets a story teller on a small seaport’s marketplace who is telling the children an old Tanzanian fairy tale. The story that Pesambili listens to while passing off, lets him make a momentous decision. Back
