Welcome to the Nordic Film Festival 2016 !
The Danish, Norwegian and Swedish Embassies in Dar es Salaam are coming together with the Goethe-Institut to bring you the best in Nordic films.
With 66% of the population under the age of 25 and set to rise, encouraging young people to participate as active citizens is important for Tanzania’s future. Therefore, in line with Nordic democratic values, this year’s theme for Dar’s very own Nordic Film Festival is ‘Youth & Citizenship’.
NICE PEOPLE – by Anders Helgeson & Karin af Klintberg, Sweden 2015, 96 min
Seventeen young men, who have all escaped from their home country Somalia and ended up in the small Swedish town of Borlänge, sign up for the World Cup in bandy (a sport similar to ice hockey). None of them have stood on skates before, the World Cup in Siberia is just around the corner, and they have only six months to qualify. The film follows the young Somalis' long journey from their first hesitant steps on the ice to the very first goal in the history of their country. And for the unlikely team, the game itself is not just a fight for the country they have left behind, but also for the country they now live in. An unexpected feel-good documentary comedy on integration with a serious political agenda – and a film that has been one of Sweden's biggest documentary success stories ever.
