Land in Sicht - Land in sight
by Judith Keil, Antje Kruska, colour, 93 min., 2012/13
Bad Belzig in the state of Brandenburg, some 80 kilometres south-west of Berlin: three asylum seekers are faced with an uncertain future in their refugee home. Abdul, the son of a sheikh, comes from Yemen, Farid has fled Iran, and Brian is from Cameroon. The destinies of three men from such different backgrounds come together in one place, although they never actually meet in the film. However, they do go through similar experiences in a country which does not understand them and which they have trouble understanding. LAND IN SIGHT is a tale of mistrust and good intentions, of encounters with public authorities – whose problems stem more from their rigid bureaucratic structures than the attitudes of their staff – and also of dreams that are often too naive to have a chance of coming true.
