Event Details
Welcome to a new year full of exciting events at the Goethe-Institut. We want to start this years programme with a special selection of films. The Goethe-Institut has since 2003 annually honoured an outstanding film work with its Documentary
Film Award at the DOK Leipzig. The DOK Leipzig is one of the most important international documentary film festivals, taking place in Germany.
To start this series, we will show the film "Peak" to you, which deals with climate change in the alpine regions and its effect on ski tourism. Karibuni sana!
Skiing - one of the most popular wintersports in the mountain areas. Perfect snow, sunshine, mountains, fresh air and some apres ski parties at night. But because of climate change the paradise is loosing its natural beauty. At night, a convoy of tractor crawlers rattle through the snow to groom the ski slopes. Just under 3000 metres in altitude, excavators dig into the ground using dynamite to build a reservoir for the preparation of artificial snow. Concrete blocks of apartments are springing up everywhere, while elsewhere in the mountains, young people have long since moved away and old people talk about how their hometown no longer has a future.
