Save the date! Saturday, 13 July, 12–9pm at the National Theatre in Accra:
Naa Gbewa- the Northern Experience is a day to honour and celebrate Naa Gbewa through music, film, dance, poetry, food, and merchandise from the oldest Kingdom in modern-day Ghana; The Dagbamba Kingdom. It is also meant to educate the public about who Naa Gbewa was, his descendants/ family.
Legend has it that Naa Gbewa, a prince and cavalryman, came and established one of the largest West African empires during the 11th century.
His territory was a vast expanse that encircled present-day Burkina Faso, the Republic of Togo and all of the Northern regional territories in Ghana. Naa Gbewa built a powerful political power structure that continues to be used by traditional authorities throughout the old empire to this day.
Also, the project seeks to celebrate the successful enskinment of Ya Na Gariba II of Dagbon who is also a descendant of Naa Gbewa.
