The new Bruckner University Big Band (22 members) features young enthusiastic jazz students from Linz, Austria, as they pay homage to the glorious big band sounds from the 1930’s, 1940, 1950s and beyond. Inspired by jazz legends such as Duke Elligton, Ella Fitzgerald and composers like Richard Rogers and Irving Berlin, they enjoy performing the music of this era in freshly-minted arrangements. Let the magic of the Bruckner University Big Band take you on a toe-tapping musical journey through the beautiful melodies and exciting rhythms of this fabulous music. Christian Radovan, Musical Director & Co-ordinator Christian was born in Linz and grew up in South Africa. He studied at the Vienna Conservatory and began his musical career at the age of 18 years as a trombonist with the Vienna Art Orchestra where he played for 17 years, touring extensively throughout Europe, Asia, Africa and the USA. Besides his work as a performer with the VAO, he has worked in recording studios and performed other concerts, projects and recordings with the following artists: Cecil Taylor, Carla Bley, Joe Zawinul, Abdullah Ibrahim, Wilhelm Breuker, Slide Hampton, Enrico Rava, Thomas Stanko, Rob McConnel, Bill Russo, George Lewis, Albert Mangelsdorff, Eumir Deodato, Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, Chaka Kahn and many more. Amongst others, Christian has worked and performed for many years in the Austrian music scene with: Harri Stojka, Karl Ratzer, Christian Kolonovits, Thomas Rabitsch, also working for Austrian television. Since 1989 he has taught at the Anton Bruckner University in Linz, Austria and for several years, has been active as a composer and conductor.
