Join Carnegie Mellon University and AITI-KACE as we host technology tech luminary and inventor Prof. Kumar on Thursday 25th October 2018 2:30pm at AITI-KACE.

Prof. Kumar is currently the Director of Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) – Africa and will be sharing his thoughts on how Ghana and Africa as a whole, can leverage on emerging technologies particularly in artificial intelligence, data science, cybersecurity, mobile systems, networks, information and communication technologies to tackle their challenges.

The event which is under the auspices of the CMU – Africa, will also feature an information session on full post-graduate scholarship and other opportunities available at CMU – Africa.

Profile of Vijayakumar Bhagavatula
U.A. and Helen Whitaker Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering Affiliated Faculty, DSSC Director, CMU - Africa
Prof. Vijayakumar ("Kumar") Bhagavatula received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), Pittsburgh and since 1982, he has been a faculty member in the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department at CMU where he is now the U.A. & Helen Whitaker Professor of ECE and the Associate Dean for Graduate and Faculty Affairs in the College of Engineering. Professor Kumar's inventions and research interests are in the area of Pattern Recognition and Coding and Signal Processing for Data Storage Systems and for Digital Communications. He has authored or co-authored over 600 technical papers, twenty book chapters and one book entitled Correlation Pattern Recognition. He served as a Topical Editor for Applied Optics and as an Associate Editor of IEEE Trans. Information Forensics and Security. Professor Kumar is a Fellow of IEEE, SPIE, Optical Society of America (OSA) and the International Association of Pattern Recognition (IAPR). Prof. Kumar has consulted for over 40 top US and Canadian companies in areas generally related to signal and image processing, pattern recognition, biometrics, error correction codes and magnetic and optical data storage systems.
