The Sickle Gene Action (SGA) raising awareness and empowering people with Sickle Cell Disease throughout the country.
Our goal is to improve the quality of lives for individuals with sickle cell disease in Ghana through early action in these major areas:
•Early diagnosis
•Early life saving treatment
•Early advocacy and awareness support services for Sickle Cell Disease
Our mission is to expand public awareness about Sickle Cell Disease in Ghana through advocacy and empowerment of individuals with Sickle Cell and within the Sickle Cell treatment community by promoting evidence-based quality healthcare, accessibility to care, advocacy support group mobilization, and to promote legislation towards a National Sickle Cell Agenda in Ghana.
Our vision is to minimize Sickle Cell related deaths through stakeholder collaborations that reinforces standardized treatment and best practices in healthcare, affordable and comprehensive care for individuals with Sickle Cell Disease in Ghana.
*Action Plan*
To date, the Sickle Gene Action has facilitated Awareness Education Exercises to over 1,500 to children between the ages of 6years to 18years in Basic and Junior High Schools, and Senior High School.
On June 18th, we will be facilitating a Sickle Cell Screening and Awareness Education Exercise at the Saleria 1&2 Basic School in Ablekuma.
On June 15th, we will be partnering with the International Sickle Cell Center for a SCD conference, blood donation drive to raise awareness. As part of our partnership, we will be raising funds to support up to 100 individuals with Sickle Cell for a medical need within the year.
Sickle Gene Action also facilitating ongoing national Media Awareness and Sensitization Campaigns in 6 regions with hopes of visiting all 16 regions.
Through these efforts, Sickle Gene Action has educated millions of Ghanaians via field campaigns, media publications, radio, TV and social media platforms.
