Code for Ghana invites journalists, students, software developers, statisticians and everyone who wants to be a part of the Open Data movement to a one day workshop on Tools and Techniques of web scraping at 10am Mobile Web Ghana, 29 August.

The world wide web is replete with open data: billions of web pages with tonnes of information which contain enormous power. This power can transform the way governments, civil society organizations and businesses operate. However, this power is nothing if we do not know how to use it. In a recent panel discussion Dr Nii Quaynor made a profound statement that, “... the way to change the world is to show the information by extracting the right kind of data to convince everyone and ‘those with the gold’...”

At Code for Ghana, we believe that there is the need for us to build our human capacity to understand open data, extract it and make meaning out of it. That is why we have organised this workshop; to be facilitated by David Sellassie Opoku, a fellow at the School of Data and the Meltwater School of Entrepreneurship.
