Event Details
After the hugely successful inaugural Race for Peace 50k ultramarathon held on December 1, 2012, the Runathon Ghana Foundation is ready to stage the bigger and improved Runathon 2014. The inaugural Race for Peace 50km ultramarathon saw massive participation, with some 2000 runners. Runners came from Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, UK, USA, France, Mali and Burkina Faso . The race started and ended at Accra’s Independence Square. The 2012 event was limited to the 50km ultramarathon races men and women, and the men’s wheelchair race.
Runathon 2014 is envisioned as a festival of running, designed to attract a large mass of runners - men and women, boys and girls - from various age cohorts. It is designed to appeal to both competitive and recreational / keep-fit runners. Attractive cash prizes, product gifts, medals, trophies and certificates will be awarded to deserving winners.
Runathon 2014 is slated for Saturday November 29, 2014. It will feature an expanded range of races, beyond the 50km races in the 2012 inaugural . Runathon 2014 is being held under the theme of “FIT FOR LIFE”. This theme seeks to help raise awareness of the need for maintaining good health through physical activity. We would be focusing on diabetes, hypertension, hepatitis and prostrate ailments.
The Runathon 2014 was launched in Accra on October 29, 2014. The launch event kicked off all promotional activity and race registration for runners.
