Thursday Nite Live is pleased to present a debut performance on our stage by Taio-Thee MC Africa. Taio is a songwriter and performing artist based in Nairobi, Kenya. He hails his artistic talents from his grandfather (Mathew .S. Wakhungu I) & father (Ben .M. Wakhungu), both of whom have invaluably inspired his musical growth and direction. After exploring his interest in music on an array of instruments, Taio found his strength in vocal expression. He teamed up with high school friend and band mates Marcus Kibukosya, Benoit Kanema, Karun Mungai and Mykie Mutooni to form Hip Hop super group ‘Camp Mulla.’ Alongside the Camp, Taio has performed across various musical stages including Big Brother Africa, Channel O Music Video Awards, Safaricom Live Concerts and the MTV African All Stars. Taio’s musical influences include numerous artistes namely E-Sir, Fela Kuti, Nneka, Khuli Chana, Blitz the Ambassador, Manifest, Hip Hop Pantsula and Mejja to name but a few. Known for his perfection, Taio maintains that the production of high quality audio/visual content is the only way Kenya’s musical reputation can be rejuvenated. He has released his EP ‘Man Made Machine’, to critical acclaim. The versatile rapper (once named as one of the Top 10 MCs in Africa by Channel O) seeks to prove why indeed ‘Thee MC Africa’ can at last be a Kenyan.
