Dance Centre Kenya (DCK) is thrilled to present the timeless ballet Romeo and Juliet at the Kenya National Theatre this Valentine’s Day weekend. This highly anticipated production marks the first full-length ballet to grace Nairobi stages since early 2020, promising an unforgettable evening of love, drama, and artistry. 🌹✨
Highlighting this special performance are two of DCK’s most distinguished alumni, returning to Nairobi after years of training abroad. Keri Yamane, remembered for her roles as Clara and the Dew Drop Fairy in The Nutcracker, and Eugene Ochieng, known for his roles in The Nutcracker and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, are set to dazzle audiences with their performances.
In 2023, Keri and Eugene competed at the International Ballet Competition in Mesagne, Italy, representing Kenya and Japan. Their stunning performances earned them a gold medal, showcasing the exceptional talent nurtured at DCK.
The production will feature award-winning costumes designed by Nathalie Fussilo and her team at Palacina Interiors, adding opulence and elegance to this visually stunning ballet.
Set to Sergei Prokofiev’s iconic score, Romeo and Juliet tells Shakespeare’s tragic love story through breathtaking choreography adapted by director Cooper Rust, vivid storytelling, and thrilling sword fights. This ballet is an ideal date-night experience for Valentine’s Day, while also offering students studying Shakespeare an extraordinary opportunity to witness his timeless work brought to life through dance. 🎭❤️
