They Dance For Rain presents a series of workshops offering training in the technique of rhythm tap dance for Nairobi-based dancers with U.S.-based dance artist Stefanie Weber and her teaching assistant JoJo McDonald.
Section 1: Introduction to Rhythm Tap Dance in Nairobi (I). Thursday and Friday, January 15th and 16th, 9AM-1PM
Section 2: Rudiments of Rhythm Tap Dance in Nairobi (I). Tuesday and Wednesday, January 20 and 21st, 9AM-1PM
Section 3: Rudiments of Rhythm Tap Dance in Nairobi (II). Thursday and Friday, January 22nd and 23rd, 9AM-1PM
Section 4: Rudiments of Rhythm Tap Dance: The Shim Sham Shimmy. Saturday, January 24th, 9AM-1PM
Section 5: Performing Rudiments for Others in Nairobi. Tuesday and Wednesday, January 27th and 28th, 9AM-1PM
Basics of Teaching Rhythm Tap Dance in Nairobi (I): Thursday, January 29th, 10AM-1PM
There are five sections to the residency. Participating dancers will receive award for hours towards certification for each section completed. Dancers interested in becoming tap dance instructors with They Dance For Rain must complete all sections of the residency (unless otherwise given permission), as well as an additional one-day teacher training workshop. This section is offered to a limited number of dancers with interest who exhibit the readiness to go on to represent the technique with passion and clarity.
The workshops will culminate in an informal showcase for the public at the GoDown Arts Centre on Wednesday January 28th at 12noon.
(Some tap shoes will be supplied. There is a limited number available. A limited amount of transportation stipends are available also. You must attend the entire class to gain transport reimbursement. Please inquire.)
