Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) invites you to take part in our hybrid Missing Maps event (online and in-person) on 6th September 2024 from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm at our office in Nairobi, Kenya.
We will be mapping Mangochi district in Malawi, where MSF has been supporting communities after a widespread cholera outbreak. MSF has set up a 70-bed cholera treatment centre and has also implemented community activities focused on providing access to clean water and hygiene, as most people living in the area have no other alternative than to drink water taken from the lake. We are also training healthcare workers, conducting health promotion sessions and epidemiological surveillance activities, and supporting local authorities in running an oral cholera vaccination campaign.
Without accurate maps, it is difficult for MSF to locate the people most in need. Missing Maps is a special initiative founded by MSF, the American Red Cross, the British Red Cross, and the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team, powered by volunteers around the world. Using OpenStreetMap, an open, free, crowd-sourced platform, volunteers map underserved regions to provide international and local NGOs and individuals with geographic data to better respond to crises.
Once you register, you will receive an email confirmation with a link to attend online.
You need a laptop, mouse, and stable internet connection.
The event offers two ways to attend: in person or virtually. We have limited slots available—15 for in-person attendance and 15 for virtual participation—allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
