Mid-morning Cinema at THE ART SPACE is a platform that offers art and film enthusiasts the opportunity to view and share critique on films in an open and social setting. The main focus will be African Cinema but other foreign films and art documentaries will be discussed as well. This will also be a platform to show and share art work by artists using time-based media in Kenya. Our first session will take place on the 20th of Feb, 2016 at 11am (promptly) ending at 1pm. Our debut film will be Ousmane Sembene’s Black Girl. Black Girl is a 1966 film by the Senegalese writer and director Ousmane Sembene starring Mbissine Thérèse Diop. The film centers on a young Senegalese woman who moves from Senegal to France to work for a rich French couple. It was the director's first feature-length film. Other notable films by Sembene are Xala, Ceddo, Guelwaar, Moolade among others. He is also the subject of the 2015 documentary film, Sembene which we’re hoping to screen in the course of future events. We look forward to seeing you and please keep time!
