The Lagos Comic Con is Nigeria’s first popular culture convention. It was established in 2012 by Ayodele Elegba. The convention is organized by the Comic Panel Entertainment Company, a subsidiary of the Mustardseed Communication International Group. The convention takes place once a year in Lagos, Nigeria and brings like-minded creatives together to share ideas and network under one roof. Each year the Lagos Comic Con brand has grown and it is now well known within the African continent. This year we have a new organising partner in ZAYZEE Ltd and we are excited about the experience this year.
The proposed 2015 Lagos Comic Con will be larger than previous conventions as it will take place over a period of 5 days (commencing on a Tuesday 14th and ending on a Saturday 19th) as opposed to its previous 2-day format. The 5-day agenda would include a series of interactive events such as panel discussions, seminars, webinars, costume competitions, sneak peak screenings of films and television shows and autograph sessions featuring celebrities from the entertainment and comic industries. This will enable fans to engage with their favorite animation creators and actors. Furthermore, this year the organizers are working towards a satellite town’s experience where scheduled events will take place at different creative cultural and digital hubs across Lagos, thereby engaging newer communities in the Lagos Comic Con experience.
The theme for this year’s convention is ‘COMICS: INTEGRATING CULTURE’. This theme refers to the idea of passing down Nigerian cultural norms, images and values to the future generation through contemporary digital media platforms. In line with this year’s theme the Comic Panel Entertainment Company will collaborate closely with the cultural centers of repute located in the Lagos Metropolitan Area such as The British Council, Goethe Institute, Alliance Francaise, Terra Kulture and a host of others. International speakers are also expected to feature in this 2015 edition.
