Asante Kotoko SC, the defending champions, began their campaign at home, while Accra Hearts of Oak started with an away game. The newly promoted teams, Samartex 1996, Nsoatreman FC, Kotoku Royals, and Tamale City, faced some challenging matches.
Asante Kotoko opened the season at Baba Yara stadium, hosting Nsoatreman FC, who had just been promoted, while Accra Hearts of Oak traveled to Agyeman Badu Park in Dormaa to face Aduana FC.
Kotoku Royals FC played their first Premier League match ever at home against Accra Lions FC. In Ainyinase, Karela United FC played against the newly entered Tamale City FC, while Samartex 1996 traveled up north to face Real Tamale United.
