KING OF THE CONCRETE FESTIVAL The King of the Concrete Basketball Festival is born out of two beliefs; the belief that “Excellence is not a singular act but a habit –that you’re what you do repeatedly.” And the belief that “Tradition never graduates”. Basketball in Uganda still reigns on the concrete courts spread across our communities, concrete courts that have produced champions in our local leagues and playground champions that choose not to compete in the local leagues. The King of the Concrete is a celebration of the passion for Ugandan basketball over the years and a union of friends and a reconnection to the history of the places where we fell in love with the game of basketball – as a player or as a fan. The King of the Concrete Festival simply reminds everyone the passion for the game, whether it’s an active player in local leagues, a father who teaches his son how to shoot the ball in the backyard, the girlfriend who enjoys the occasional hoops with the boyfriend or that ardent fan who’s constantly plugged in. PUT ON FOR YOUR TOWN At the King of The Concrete Tournament, Ten teams will represent their towns. Each team will present basketball the way it’s played on home turf. The criteria for Players making the team is simple – The player MUST have fallen in love with the game on that court and he is a regular at pick-up games on that court. Each team shall have a maximum of 12 players including 2 legends from that community court/town. The 10 tens shall be divided into two pools of five, with the two top ranked teams in every pool making the semi finals and thereafter a final to crown the ‘The King Of The Concrete’. THE KING OF THE CONCRETE PHOTO EXHIBITION At Basketball256. we believe that photos are very important because they remind us of the good times we've had, the steps we've taken and they represent the future possibilities. We shall be exhibiting a great deal of photos at the King of the Concrete Festival including many amazing photos that will define the course that Ugandan Basketball has taken. Besides choice photos from the multitudes of photos we have taken about Ugandan Basketball, we have collected a great deal of photo work that is so telling of the history of Ugandan basketball. THE KING OF THE CONCRETE DUNKMANIA Every basketball neighborhood boasts of that one or two guys whose ability to fly and dunk the ball is unmatched in the neighborhood. But how well can these Playgrounds’s dunking champions fare against other fine dunkers from other neighborhoods? At the King of the concrete, each town/court will send their best dunkers to compete against each other for the King of The Concrete Dunkmania title. The dunkers will be judged on their jumping abilities, style of dunk and power on the dunk. Other activities will include; THE KING OF THE CONCRETE SKILLS CHALLENGE THE KING OF THE CONCRETE SHOOTING STARS CHALLENGE MEET AND GREET YOUR FAVE BASKETBALL STARS TEAM EXHIBITIONS All this will be happening alongside hot Deejay mixes, performances from some of Uganda's finest artists, BBQ, eats and drinks.
