Ikeson college for skills and career development and the Griffin education for all initiative in collaboration with Cambridge UK present the 6th international UK Jolly Phonics seminar 2022 in Ghana. The Program is designed to equip teachers and parents in teaching their children how to read, write, spell and speak English using the Jolly Phonics Approved Methodology. This year's Jolly Phonics Seminar will serve as an introduction to the jolly phonics course to new teachers, parents and assisting teachers as well as a refresher to experienced teachers.
Before now, teaching children how to read and write was done by teaching them the names of the letters in alphabetical order. These traditional methods forced children to memorize words and not real techniques for pronouncing and reading words. As a result of this, many children were left behind, causing many to struggle and others losing confidence in themselves.
Jolly Phonics is a Phonetic programme that solves the above problems. It shows the relationship between letter sounds and It starts with teaching the child each letter sound separately before blending it to form words. Jolly Phonics breaks the Alphabetical Code and unlocks the door to spellings, reading and writing!
This seminar will focus on The five basic skills for Jolly Phonics which are:
- Learning the letter sounds
- Order of the letter sounds
- Storytelling and actions
- Letter names
- Alternative sounds
- Blending
- Identifying sounds in words
- Spelling the tricky words
