e-Ananse is thrilled to present the “Durbar and Cultural Celebration” in commemoration of the James Barnor at 95 Festival.
This grand durbar, to honor the legacy of James Barnor—whose extraordinary photography and visual storytelling has immensely influenced the scope of traditional and contemporary photography, is part of the cross-disciplinary festival comprised of creative activations across Accra and Tamale from Wednesday, May 29 to June 29, 2024.
Scheduled for the durbar are art performances; including the uber-composed indigenous band in Ghana, Kwanpa Band, a poetry recital and a portrayal of Ghana’s rich cultural heritage from the theatre wing of the University of Ghana School of Performing Arts.

About James Barnor:
James Barnor, is a Ghanaian photographer born in Accra in 1929, with a career that has spanned more than six decades. He became the country’s first photojournalist for Daily Graphic and internationally known to have photographed major social, cultural and political developments across Ghana and England.
