Event Details
The Jalada Mobile Literary & Arts Festival is a hybrid between a traditional place-based festival and a bus tour.
The tour will cover 5 countries (12 towns): Kenya (Nairobi, Nakuru, Kisumu, Mombasa), Uganda (Kampala, Kabale), DRC (Goma), Rwanda (Kigali) and Tanzania (Mwanza, Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar).
The festival will celebrate diversity and create living connections between writers, artists, and diverse audiences in the big cities and small towns across East Africa.
The festival main festival partner for the Kenyan leg is Goethe-Institut Nairobi
The Kisumu leg is a 1-day event with a rich programme featuring panel discussions, spoken word and theatrical performances.
The day starts with poetry and storytelling on the shores of Lake Victoria as the sun jumps on the waves stretching beyond the horizon. Like pre-internet era, bards – tribal poet-singers and storytellers, we re-imagine the duty of remembering and sharing a culture’s reservoir of memory through story and song.
In the evening, from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM, Jalada Africa in collaboration with Kenya National Library Services Kisumu will present a panel discussion on "Myths and Legends of the Lake" and stage a cultural celebration featuring the best talents that Kisumu has to offer.
The Venue is Kenya National Library Services Kisumu
Entrance is free.
