Event Details
International Women's Collaboration Brew Day (IWCBD) is an annual event held on 8th March, to coincide with International Women's Day. The event was started in 2014, when 60 women brewmasters (brewsters) around the world simultaneously brewed the same recipe of craft beer. The event helps to raise awareness of women working in the brewing industry, especially as brewmasters. It is also a chance for women interested in brewing to network with one another. This event was held for the first time in South Africa on the 8th March 2016. Female craft brewers, homebrewers and beer enthusiasts gathered at Copperlake Brewpub in Johannesburg and Afro Caribbean Brewing Co in Cape Town to brew separate batches of the same recipe: an African Queen Pale Ale (named after the ever famous J17 hop variety, which was recently renamed African Queen).
For 2017, we are planning bigger and better events! IWCBD_SA 2017 will be held on Saturday 11th March again at Banana Jam Cafe, with the Joburg leg held at Brewcraft SA in Jet Park. This year we will brew a African Queen Blond Ale.
The event will see more women (and men) involved in all domains of the South African brewing industry come together for a full day of learning, networking and socializing. We will put a brew through, have talks and discussions, beer tasting and loads of fun. All proceedings from the event and from the beer sales will be donated to Nonceba Family Councelling in Khayelitsha.
