Event Details

Kamileon's Kloset Professional Development, Inc. is an Atlanta-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to transform lives by promoting the economic independence of disadvantaged men and women seeking employment and self-sufficiency. We have been supporting the slums of Mathare, in Nairobi, Kenya since 2013 through our collaborative partnership with Cumberland Community Church . In Spring 2015, Kenyan Bishop, David Thagana, Glory Outreach Assembly came to visit us in the U.S. During his visit, he explained that many children are unable to obtain primary education because they do not have the proper uniforms required to attend school. As such, Kamila Brown Washington, Founder, was invited to join a Global Mission Team (Nov 19-30, 2015). Her role on the team is to help establish an entrepreneurship program for the villagers. The goal is to provide uniforms to Kenyan children by establishing a sustainable project, e.g., sewing program, helping widows who have been ostracized become self-sufficient as business owners. Particpants will be trained in clothing, textiles, job training, and/or appropriate business management. Participants of the program will take on roles and responsibilities for sewing, managing the expenses and income, selling and distributing uniforms to schools, and developing new markets. An established group of community leaders will provide continual guidance to the project to ensure its success and position the participants for with the tools and resources required to start their own business. During this 10-day journey, we will visit: 1. Mathare Valley Slum: distribute food, conduct workshops, and develop entrepreneurial program 2. Beat the Drum Village: provide support to a home for 26 HIV/AIDS children who have been orphaned and ostracized by society. 3. Tumaini Education Center: support 30 children with eductaion and food. We need to raise $6,000: -Travel and accommodations -10 sewing machines -10 tables - Start-up supplies (measuring tape, scissors, thread, needles, fabric) -Training materials All donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law (EIN# 46-5115573). Contributions are non-refundable. Please provide your mailing address, if you wish to have a receipt for tax purposes.
