How well do you know Internet Standards and the governing bodies of the internet?
Do you know you can play an active role in shaping the internet?
A large percentage of youth are the first generation of adults who grew up as active users of the Internet. They represent the voices of a major stakeholder group with diverse perspectives. Youths are also shaping the Internet in many ways, they are active participants in the digital economy as well as developers and designers in the technological field. They also constitute a large percentage of Internet users who fuel growth and stand behind online social movements that bring important conversations to the limelight. Indeed, they are building the Internet of their dream, however, when it comes to policy discussions, most of them are not at the table. The multi-stakeholder approach to Internet Governance allows for everyone especially young people to contribute their voices to shaping their dream internet and also the usage of the internet.
Many youth groups engaging in such conversations exist worldwide and this youth initiative in Ghana seeks to provide a platform to facilitate the conversation and dialogues whilst following through with campaigns and initiatives that lead to the creation of workable policies online and offline for the good of all. The maiden edition of the Ghana Youth Internet Governance Forum will congregate the youth and experts to discuss on the theme “The future of work; Digital Jobs and Youth Inclusion”
Amidst the advantages associated with emerging technologies like AI and machine learning, there are fears of machines taking over the labour force thereby rendering many qualified persons, jobless. This dialogues will engage stakeholders on gender inequalities and how to provide inclusive participation in the digital community while addressing issues that can better position the youth to prepare for the future of work
