Francois Stofberg – ‘The South African economy - time to face the music’
Starts: Thursday, 25 February, 2016 11:30am
Ends: Thursday, 25 February, 2016 02:30pm
The Department of Library Services invites you to attend this lecture, which will be presented by an Economist of the Efficient Group, Francois Stofberg. Since 2008 South Africa’s economy has been on a slow decline, ever onwards, into oblivion. In 2015 the accumulation of bad government policies, weak political leadership, an oversized and inefficient state, as well as a hint of foreign pressures, finally reached a climax, and it all came tumbling down. This year expectations are bleak, inflation is set to get out of hand and the economy may even enter recession territory, with everything hanging on a knives edge, it’s time to face the music. Come and listen to our interpretation of current economic affairs, is there still a way to turn it all around, and how does government’s finances play a role? One thing is clear, the new-old Finance Minister has his work cut out, maybe his new “immortal” status can help him – and us.
