There is a basic lack of interest in the study of science and mathematics at the basic school level and this is due to the scanty or non-inclusion of the use of experiments in the teaching of S. T. E. M. subjects at the basic school level contributing to the very high failure and dropout rates at the basic education and senior high school levels.
EUREKA 2016, a science fair event, seeks to solve this problem by contributing to the stimulation of interest in science, technology, innovation and creativity through the promotion of S. T. E. M. amongst young people by:
1. exposing students to the application of S.T.E.M. knowledge in the activities around them in their community.
2. teaching problem analysis and solving skills.
3. promoting interest in learning science, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects.
