The film “The Architects” (“Die Architekten”) is an East-German movie directed by Peter Kahane from 1990. Daniel Brenner the main character is an architect who is waiting for his big chance.
Then he receives the appealing commission to design a cultural center for a satellite town. The project for an unconventional cultural center which he developed with his colleagues fails. Broken and disillusioned, Brenner collapses in front of the project’s inauguration tribune.
Through a lot of deferments because of political motivations the filmshooting started in October 1989. So the film got in the blustering happenings of the year. This film marks the end of the DEFA years.
With this movie, the series DEFA Retrospective will be finished. In 2015, the Goethe-Institut Addis Abeba will start the series Documenting Germany, showing documentaries from Germany on the German Movie Night.
