Event Details
Photographic exhibition by WaterAid Ghana - The HSBC Water Programme (HWP) was our largest programme spanning, five-years: $100 million partnership with two other NGOs – WWF (World Wide Fund) and Earthwatch. It was launched in 2012.
For WaterAid global, our target: to reach 1.1 million people with safe water and 1.9 million people with sanitation across six countries in South Asia and West Africa. In Ghana, HWP was implemented in five key Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies: Tamale, Bolgatanga, Wa Municipal, Birim North and Kwahu Afram Plains. The project aims to reach more than 120,000 people with access to safe water and more than 80,000 people with sanitation. To date, WaterAid has reached more than 110,000 people with safe water and more than 50,000 people with sanitation in Ghana, as part of the HSBC Water Programme. WaterAid works with communities and local partners and influences policy and practice, to ensure sustainability of projects. By involving communities in the design of safe water and sanitation solutions, facilities can be locally-produced, affordable and fit for purpose. This philosophy of investing in people enables local communities to manage and maintain facilities and demand their rights from government.
