Development experts forecast that Africa’s youth population will outgrow economic opportunities on the continent in a little over a decade; this means that education and employment opportunities will decline even further than they are today unless urgent interventions are made. With more than a quarter of the world’s under-25 population projected to be living in Africa by 2030, our continent is faced with the exciting challenge of how to maximize this youth bulge.
While the rest of the developed world prepares for the 4th Industrial Revolution, African countries are challenged to both pick up the pace of development and prepare for even more rapid transformation. How can we pivot our youth population to address our grand challenges and harness our greatest opportunities? What role can young changemakers play in transforming education, healthcare, climate change, governance, infrastructure, urbanization and job creation?
How can we maximize opportunities inherent in agriculture, natural resource management, wildlife conservation, tourism, arts, design and culture? What role will transformative education and network development opportunities play in enabling this new path for the continent’s youth?
