The fifth annual Batalo Dance Fest takes place from 26 - 27 August 2017 at the National Theatre in Kampala, Uganda. This is a unique opportunity to showcase the best choreography under the theme of 'traditional meets urban' at the Hip Hop Theatre evening on Saturday 26 August, and at the Dance Fest Finals on Sunday 27 August. Performances selected will be either dance theatre pieces, which show more of a narrative, or showcases, which might be more explosive but don't necessarily have a story to tell. In this application, please complete all sections and submit a link to a video of the piece you would like to perform, or a recent performance with a clear description of the piece in writing. Batalo East provides a platform for emerging and established dancers in Uganda and the region, and as such the application process for pieces is competitive and all pieces will be reviewed for their cohesion, appropriateness and technical excellence. Pieces which clearly demonstrate excellence in fusion between traditional and urban dance styles will be given preference in the final selection process. At Batalo East, we feel this review process, led by some of the region's best choreographers in urban dance and international experts, adds value to all performances and any pieces selected need to be open to incorporating feedback prior to the performance at the Dance Fest itself.
