Music and language are related in so many ways. One common factor they share is the ability to convey messages and evoke different emotions even in written format. The September Writers’ Edition of An Evening of Afro Jazz with Ricky na Marafiki seeks to explore this unique relationship between music and writing.
Jazz, just like language can be impulsive, spontaneous and instinctive. Jazz improvisation is a bit like overhearing a great conversation. You just go with the flow and this is What makes music unique. The fact that music is a language without set meaning, we can interpret it whichever way we want. The best part is no one is checking our grammar or spelling or punctuation.
On 30th September join us at Alliance Francaise from 6-9 p.m as we celebrate our writers through music. On stage will be our very own afro jazz legends Ricky na marafiki, Mufasa the poet, Lele Ngoma who have set out to create a new, different Afro sound that combines Benga, Afro-Soul and Jazz.
