Since time immemorial Swahili culture has always been characterized by music especially during festivities. Swahili people looked for every reason to sing and dance.Taarab music which has distinctly Arabic origins was most common. Band members played keyboards, flutes, brass instruments and drums to acc...ompany singers. Is any of this starting to sound familiar?

As part of the Jazz Revolution and remaining true to our Swahili roots we invite you to An Evening of Afrojazz with Ricky na Marafiki - Swahili Edition on the 29th of July at Alliance Francaise from 6-9 p.m. Come join us on a musical safari as we explore Swahili Afro Jazz music through the different time periods.

Juma Tutu and the Tutu Band of the hit single , Sukari , will be among the stewards on this wonderful journey.
Dust your Kamusi and reacquaint yourself with Kiswahili Sanifu as there will be prizes to be won on the trivia session. Teamwork , a very important aspect of the Swahili culture might come in handy : Kidole kimoja hakivunji chawa.
