By Baraka Opera Kenya
Every year at Christmas, performances of the enchanting opera Amahl and The Night Visitors bring delight and seasonal joy to countless families all around the world. This year, Baraka Opera Kenya assembles over 50 of the finest Kenyan singers, dancers, and instrumentalists to bring this warm-hearted opera to life.
Amahl and The Night Visitors is set in Kenya and tells the touching tale of Amahl, a crippled shepherd boy, who lives with his poor, widowed mother. One evening, Amahl and his mother are visited by three richly-dressed strangers with gifts for a newborn child. They ask for shelter for the night, and during that fateful evening, a miracle happens!
The opera lasts about 45 minutes, making it an excellent introduction to opera for children of all ages. The first half of the performance will be Amahl and The Night Visitors, followed by a second half titled A Choral Celebration of Christmas, featuring a varied selection of beloved and new Christmas music, including the popular and rousing Baba Yetu.
Join us at the Braeburn Theatre, Gitanga Road, on Saturday, December 14th, and Sunday, December 15th, with performances at 3 PM and 6 PM on both days. Come along to this perfect introduction to the holiday season – you'll be enchanted! 🎶✨
