A Sense Of Home: Accra

Date: Saturday16th September 2023

Time: 14:00 - 22:00

Location: The Nubuke Foundation, 7 Lome Cl, Accra, Ghana

The sense of ‘home’ is deeply ingrained in humans, rooted in a deep need for a sense of identity and belonging: The consequences of colonialism, the impact of technological evolution and centuries of migration has resulted in “home” becoming a deeply multidimensional concept for Africans and the Diaspora scattered around the globe.

Today’s youth have become nomads, both digitally and physically, in search of a place to call home. Given the broad perspectives of our community, and the unique experience of simultaneously belonging and disconnection with our origins, how have we defined this sense of “home”?

Oroko Radio and Space Black will leverage our community across Africa and the Diaspora to explore contemporary African perspectives on the ‘Sense of Home’ using the five senses: touch, taste, smell, hearing and sight. This will be through the delivery of two immersive cultural showcases in Accra & London.

Expect a flea market, DJ sets (including open decks), panel discussions, free food, artwork presentations and more!

IMPORTANT: if you would like to sign up for the DJ open decks, please rsvp to info@oroko.live. You will receive a reply confirming your slot time.

Entry is free for both events. Thank you to re:arc for making this possible!
