Introduction
The annual preeminent national conference on philanthropy, Ghana Giving Summit is a gathering of philanthropy associations, support organisations, networks, advisories, funders, academic centres and other philanthropic stakeholders in Ghana and the diaspora that provides a unique opportunity to network, learn from each other and co-create to make a greater impact. Building upon the success of previous editions, the 4th Ghana Giving Summit (GGS) will be hosted under the overarching theme of Activating Radical-Local Philanthropy in Ghana Towards fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs).
As a catalyst for social change powered by philanthropy, the coalition is setting the pace to transform philanthropy by “walking the talk” and ‘’amplifying the voice’’ on giving and philanthropy in Ghana. The philanthropy summit is produced in partnership with Giving Tuesday Ghana, Brookings Institute, Centre for Strategic Philanthropy and Social Investment (CESPSI), United States Africa Initiatives (USAFI), and other Ghanaian and diaspora philanthropic coalition members.
Giving Tuesday engages communities in fundraising by providing individuals and groups the opportunity to donate to causes close to their hearts. This exemplifies Community Philanthropy, a form of locally driven development that strengthens community capacity, advocacy and trust building whilst simultaneously tapping into and building local resources. These local resources are then able to be pooled together and utilized to help strengthen and sustain the community. The movement has gained momentum in the region over the past 6 years with organizations and individuals coming out strongly to advocate for generosity and create new ways to encourage individuals to give back. By harnessing the power of radical-local philanthropy in Ghana and participation of the diaspora community, the untold story of the impact of philanthropy in Ghana will be unveiled.
