The 2014 WAMIC is under the theme “Reducing Extreme Poverty through Microfinance” brings together 200 experts in the microfinance sector, ICT, Media, Civil societies, telecom, academia, banks, policy makers and legislators to share knowledge and information on the best practices in the field and how the sector can be improved to meet its original objectives. It will also present an opportunity to develop a road map to a legislative framework for the sector.
The programme has two sections:
Day 1: July 23 There will be an opening ceremony and keynote address to usher in the programmme. The opening section will be followed by presentation from resource persons.
Day 2: July 24 This provides an opportunity for participants to interact with various resource persons on below area:
- Corporate Governance and the sustainability of microfinance
- Legal and Regulatory framework for the microfinance sector
- Identifying Investment Opportunities Within The Current sub-region Microfinance Market
- Alternative banking in enhancing business: the roles of Telco’s mobile money/cash products

- Coordinating Regulatory Policy And Legislative Instruments To Develop A Functional Framework for the microfinance sector
- Panel Discussion: there will be a high panel discussion that brings civil societies, experts, practitioners, academia, and legislators on how to develop a legislative framework for the microfinance sector.
