Life Skills Development Foundation (LSDF) https://www.sportanddev.org/en/organization/lifeskills-development-foundation and its collaborating partners will be hosting the first ever Girls Football Festival (GFF) in Lusaka in the month of April 2017. The Tournament will be a weeklong youth football festival that will bring together over 400 girls teams from across the country. The target participants will be drawn from communities which are considered to lack football and educational programs and the girls are considered to be at risk and vulnerable. The 2017 Youth Football Festival (GFF) aims at supporting socially disadvantaged youths by enabling them to take responsibility for their own lives and future. The 2017 Girls Football Festival (GFF) will further aims at educating the target group on their Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) using football as a vehicle to educate girls from different age groups and diverse cultural backgrounds. The 2017 Girls Football Festival (YFF) will be the first of its kind with an objective of keeping girls active while providing an opportunity to learn about Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) as well as other life skills. The 2017 Girls Football Festival further will be a platform for networking, building friendship and promoting FAIRPLAY. The participants will include children aged between 12 and 18 who will participate in a football and educational festival in different age categories. The tournament will be an opportunity to change the community’s perception of girls’ participation in sport as well as promote the right to play for girls in the country. For a long time the girl child has been sidelined as the majority of sports opportunities have gone more towards supporting boys. This will be a unique event as girls will be able to express themselves through play as well as get an education through the planned life skills activities.
