Expected outputs from the boot camp

Participants should develop an understanding of the context of the challenge areas from the perspective of various stakeholders and end beneficiaries.

Participants should be able to identify innovative opportunities for change within the scope of the challenge areas.

What are the Up Accelerate cycle II Challenges?
A challenge represents an area the Up Accelerate team believes will create the best opportunities for change and impact within the Ugandan health care system. The challenges were identified through consultative meetings with key stakeholders in health, including government, civil society, UN agencies, academia, private sector and the youth. Applicants can propose solutions to the two challenge areas.
The challenge areas are as follows:

How might we improve demand and access to essential maternal health medicines & supplies in Uganda?

Potential opportunity areas for solutions:

Healthcare financing to the mass market

Absorption of the trained health care workforce into the public or private sector

Focus on patient engagement, experience and feedback mechanisms

Accountability systems within health

Affordable and contextually relevant diagnostic tools or health supplies

b) How might we improve the use of data in healthcare planning, monitoring and delivery?
Potential opportunity areas for solutions:

Tools to improve decision making by complementing existing systems in health care

Linking various health care systems to drive information exchange and decision making

Drive instant data usage within the health system (medicines supply chain, healthcare workforce, patient management etc)

Predictive analysis of data to drive accurate forecasting during planning
