Up Accelerate is a one-year initiative implemented by Outbox in partnership with UNFPA and funding from UKAID. It seeks to support young entrepreneurs aged 18 - 30 years that are tackling challenges in sexual and reproductive health in Uganda by providing them with mentorship, seed funding of up-to $10,000 per team and business development training. http://upaccelerate.co.ug The Up Accelerate initiative has been developed with support from the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, aligns with national priorities, and contributes to Vision 2040. The Up Accelerate program was launched in November 2016 and runs until September 2017. The program will seek to support up-to eight (8) startup companies develop their solutions into market ready, scalable and sustainable businesses. Four teams have been selected to participate in the first Up Accelerate incubation process. Outbox has launched the next call for applications to the second cycle (II). This process will involve the identification of opportunity areas the innovators should address and the sourcing and recruitment of applicants. Boot camps will be held as one of the strategies to achieve these goals. Objectives of the Boot Camp To sensitize and mobilize young entrepreneurs on the Up Accelerate program process; To enable participants to understand the context of the two challenge areas in order to develop relevant and feasible innovative products. Duration of the boot camp The bootcamp will be conducted at Islamic University in Uganda on 30th March 2017 for 4 ½ hours from 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm. Expected outputs from the boot camp Participants should develop an understanding of the context of the challenge areas from the perspective of various stakeholders and end beneficiaries. Participants should be able to identify innovative opportunities for change within the scope of the challenge areas. What are the Up Accelerate cycle II Challenges? A challenge represents an area the Up Accelerate team believes will create the best opportunities for change and impact within the Ugandan health care system. The challenges were identified through consultative meetings with key stakeholders in health, including government, civil society, UN agencies, academia, private sector and the youth. Applicants can propose solutions to the two challenge areas. The challenge areas are as follows: How might we improve demand and access to essential maternal health medicines & supplies in Uganda? Potential opportunity areas for solutions: Healthcare financing to the mass market Absorption of the trained health care workforce into the public or private sector Focus on patient engagement, experience and feedback mechanisms Accountability systems within health Affordable and contextually relevant diagnostic tools or health supplies b) How might we improve the use of data in healthcare planning, monitoring and delivery? Potential opportunity areas for solutions: Tools to improve decision making by complementing existing systems in health care Linking various health care systems to drive information exchange and decision making Drive instant data usage within the health system (medicines supply chain, healthcare workforce, patient management etc) Predictive analysis of data to drive accurate forecasting during planning
