Event Details

"The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad people but the silence over that by the good people.” - Martin Luther King, Jr.

Kwaai Diva Extraordinaire Umlilo walks the sites of struggle in home town Johannesburg in a performance art piece ‘Umzabalazo’ off of sophomore EP 'Aluta'.

The video concept is around the idea of the body as a site of struggle that is bound by society, oppressive colonial history and modernity. It follows Umlilo as two characters barricaded by idendity and isolated from freedom of expression.

We will be streaming the live performance at different times on Saturday at different sites of struggle including sunrise at the affluent Northcliff Ridge, Mary Fitzgerald Square, Mandela Bridge, Constitutional Hill and more.

Times: 6am, 10am, 4pm and 6pm
Locations: Northcliff Ridge, Mary Fitzgerald Square, Constitutional Hillm, Nelson Mandela Bridge, JHB CBD

On Thursday we will release an interactive map full of the sites of struggle and details around the event.

Through, viewers will be able to live stream the performance.
