THE GREAT ZEBRA & GIRAFFE COUNT
Starts: Sunday, 1 March, 2015 04:00am
Ends: Monday, 2 March, 2015 03:00pm
How many zebras & giraffe are there is Nairobi National Park?
Since the exact number is not known, join in the ‘Great Zebra Count’ and help KWS and Scientists find out!
All you have to do is REGISTER YOURSELF and/or a TEAM, and on the 1st or 2nd of March drive along an allocated route in the Nairobi Park. Take as many pictures of zebras and giraffes that you can and leave it to the Scientists and Kenya Wildlife Service to do the rest!
Its called CITIZEN SCIENCE!!!....where tourists and the general public contribute to science and research!! In addition to a full report after analysis, participants will get instant feedback on interesting facts of some of the individual animals that they may have come across in their route.
HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?? Using a revolutionary pattern Identification software, that can distinguish and identify animals with wrinkles, stripes, spots and blotches. The team will carry out a ‘sight-resight’ analysis to estimate the overall numbers of Zebra and Giraffe as well as the numbers of infant, juvenile and adult age classes. This will help determine whether the population is stable and sustaining itself.
Sounds Fun??? It has never been simpler to get involved!!!
1) Form a team: This can be your family or with friends doesn't matter as long as your surrounded by people who shall help you enjoy the day; because it is about playing a vital role as a citizen in helping our scientist, while enjoying our National Park and being a local tourist!
