For the first time ever, Dominion Television proudly presents The Joy Experience: The Nine Lessons of Christmas, a live, theatrical melodrama. This innovative and pioneering event is a wondrous celebration to usher in the holiday season, delivering messages of divine hope, redemption, and remembrance of the essence of the Christmas season-- the birth of Jesus Christ.   

Synopsis: 

The Joy Experience: The 9 lessons of Christmas is an adaptation of the traditional Night of 9 Lessons and Carols Service. The exceptional twist- the lessons are performed through dance and set to a music score of Christmas carols infused with traditional and contemporary African rhythms and style. The journey through the nine lessons depicts Bible stories including the fall of man, God’s faithfulness to Abraham, and the prophecy of Christ’s birth. 

The story is set in West Africa where a young African boy, Kojo introduces his new African- American friend, Kenneth to the nine lessons of Christmas. The two young men, who met in Ghana during the Year of Return, became great friends and planned during that summer to spend the Christmas holidays together in Accra. Although the global pandemic threatened their plans to reunite, the boys are able to meet this year in Osu. As Kenneth begins to reacquaint with his favorite Ghanaian foods and reminisce of his time last summer, he notices a signboard that reads, ‘Remember the 9 Lessons of Christmas’. He asks Kojo what the signboard is about and Kojo begins to share his perspective of the nine lessons, unfolding a historical and musical trek through biblical times and illustrated through dance and modern, African-based renditions of traditional Christmas carols. From the bustling market square ‘In David’s City’, to the ‘little town of Bethlehem’, the ensemble cast will deliver heartfelt and stirring numbers that narrate the prophecy to the birth of Jesus Christ; all while demonstrating the rich and vibrant culture of Africa and meaningful accounts of God’s liberating grace. The Nine Lessons of Christmas reminds us all of the sanctity of the Christmas holiday and the ultimate joy of knowing Jesus Christ as Saviour. 

The Joy Experience: The Nine Lessons of Christmas is a cross-cultural theatrical experience that will inspire hope, deepen your faith, and celebrate the incarnation of God’s love. This melodrama traces the activity of God’s redemptive power from the creation to present day, sharing the broad scope of God’s lasting commitment to humanity and the meaning of the incarnation in sharing good news. With modern versions of classic Christmas carols, an innovative storyline, performances by emerging Ghanaian talent led by an experienced international production team, this melodrama is sure to leave a lasting impression of what Christmas is all about and God’s gift for everyone- everlasting joy!
