Event Details

The Shakespeare Schools Festival (SSF) hails from the United Kingdom as an additional education program, aimed at improving language and social skills through the performing arts. Each year the festival encourages schools to perform abridged “thirty-minute” versions of Shakespearean plays in their local professional theatres throughout the country.

The Festival is a fantastic opportunity for youth seeking opportunities to explore their potential in a fun, developmental way. It offers high school students the opportunity to engage their education curriculum for the first time on a professional stage. This thrilling, non-competitive environment builds capacity, character and fosters an appreciation for the metaphors and nuances of pre-scribed literature.

SSF SA was recently hosted at Artscape Theatre, with 15 schools taking part in forth consecutive seasons of the festival that is running Nationwide in four provinces in South Africa. For the very first time Somerset Playhouse will be the venue for an additional run of SSF SA in the Western Cape over three day period - 2-4 September.
