It is part of the Embassy’s cultural program whose objective is to foster the development of music skills among young and emerging artists, while providing them with opportunities for exposure and growth.
Bands are required to present one original song and their own rendition of a popular song. This year the contest will focus on selected musical genres that include Blues, Afro-pop, Rock, Jazz, Reggae, Alternative Reggae, Country, Soul and Rhythm and RnB.
An experienced jury will judge the performances based on lyrical content, rhythm, innovation, clarity, overall musical performance, stage presence, interaction with the audience, appearance, originality and audience response.
The schools will compete for the Best Band title and this year’s prizes will include a recording contract for the top band’s original song, air play on ZiFM and cash. In addition, the top three bands will be afforded the opportunity to perform on the main stage at the Embassy of Italy during MUSICA 2016, alongside established international and local artists.
