International Day Of The Girl,Garissa Edition

Ends: Tuesday, 11 October, 2016 02:00pm
The world's population of 1.1 billion vibrant and innovative girls is part of a creative generation projected to take on the future with a pomp. Yet the vision of gender equity in sustainable development goals (SDGs) portrays the enormous and tedious uphill tasks that the girl child has to undergo on daily basis to achieve her goals.
Having noted that this year's theme (Girls' Progress = Goals' Progress: A Global Girl Data Movement) focus on exposing how the existing gaps in data on girls and young women and lack of systemic analysis and application significantly limits and shortens the ability to track and keep abreast of the progress and affairs of the most important organ our community.
We fully agree with and support UNICEF's appeal to advance the Global Girl on Data Movement on this day which calls for increased investments .
Girls have and are already changing the world for the better and we have to as a society enhance them and place them strategically by keeping track of their progress and their wellbeing.
In lieu of the above, we as Silver Lining Kenya seek to organize and celebrate The International Day of the Girl Child, on 11 October, 2016. at Garissa University College by inviting girls from schools around Garissa County and elucidating this year's theme and inspiring them to realize their girl power .We will invite successful women who will share their story with the girls to inspire and ignite their mind #IDG2016, #TalkToAGirl
