Project Management for Development Professionals - PMD Pro

An overview of the PMD Pro
Project Management for Development Professionals (PMD Pro) was developed due to the need to tailor project management training to meet the needs and realities of the development sector.

The development sectors basically manage work through projects. These projects are generally designed, planned, led, implemented, managed, monitored and evaluated by program officers, who are mostly technical program area experts (Health professionals, Agronomists, Economist, Educationists, etc), who are very adept at identifying treatment protocols for illnesses, developing curricula for schools, designing improved agricultural systems, and analyzing the root cause of poverty. The beneficiary communities also commit much time and resources to the success of the projects which are supposed to affect the lives of millions of people.
Most of these technical experts, however, do not have extensive experience or skills in project management as this has not been the strategic focus of many development organizations. PMD Pro helps to improve development professionals’ project management capacity, in a contextualized, balanced, comprehensive, and adaptable manner so as to help increase the efficiency and effectiveness of projects in the development sector.

The course is divided into three modules; PMD Pro1, PMD Pro2 and PMD Pro3 and is assessed by a multiple choice exam which is completed online. Participants need to complete the first module and get certified in order to qualify for the next level.
PMD Pro1 is a five day introduction to project management in a humanitarian and development context. It covers basic concepts, tools and terms of project management specific to NGO’s; the PMD Pro2 is the application of the concepts in development project scenarios while the PMD Pro3 is for continuous development for professional career through the pursuit of an advanced qualification form an independent, internationally-recognized certification board.
Caritas Nigeria in collaboration with CRS and LINGOs is establishing a learning hub of international standard to train development workers to become proficient in Project Management skills and tools which are specifically focused and relevant to the development sector under a training program called PMD Pro.

About us
Caritas Nigeria was established in 2010 as the specialized national development agency of the Catholic Church in Nigeria. Its mandate is to coordinate development programs in several thematic areas to all Nigerians irrespective of religion or ethnicity. One of these areas is capacity building.
Caritas Nigeria believes that promoting effective and sustainable intervention is key to achieving integral human development. Its humanitarian interventions has supported more than 110,000 persons to receive life-saving HIV therapy, among whom are caregivers of orphans and vulnerable children; about 30,000 economically challenged women and men are supported to improve livelihood through agriculture; broken down boreholes have been rehabilitated in communities, a number of abject poor have been supported and Caritas Nigeria also intervened during the flood.

Realizing that capacity building is key to sustainable development, Caritas Nigeria is working towards building and improving the project management capacity of development workers across Nigeria.
Caritas Nigeria is authorized to deliver the PMD Pro training having registered with LINGOs, a consortium of over 55 international development, humanitarian, relief conservation and health organizations.
