The Basha Uhuru Freedom Festival aims to showcase the very best of South Africa’s young creative culture. Celebrating our country's freedom of expression and unique style through a one month long program that features art, music, poetry, film, performance and various other activities. This year we have spread the program over the whole of youth month in order to focus on different forms of expression each week. The festivities will begin on First Thursday the 2nd of June with two large art exhibitions opening, we will once again be hosting a special edition of “The Design Share Party” Hosted by Neo Rakajane and we have a bigger venue for the Basha Music Festival. The Festival is hosted by Constitution Hill in Braamfontein and will commemorate the 40th anniversary of the youth uprising on June 16th 1976 which is the day that we now celebrate as South Africa’s youth day. Basha Uhuru Festival is curated by Kalashnikovv Gallery, an arts consultancy, gallery and project space based in Johannesburg.
