Africa Youth Jobs & Skills Fair is a continental platform that brings all stakeholders to engage and provide transformational solutions leading to the creation of jobs for the African youth toward achieving the SDGs 2030 and the AGENDA 2063. Africa Union’s Agenda 2063 recognizes that the future of the continent, in part rests on the skills, knowledge, talents and commitment of its young people. We help young people find their ideal roles across the continent by connecting them to recruiters, funders and mentors at top local and international organizations; providing them with tools to support them along their career journeys.
WHY – AFRICA YOUTH JOBS & SKILLS FAIR
With 200 million people aged between 15 and 24, Africa has the largest population of young people in the world. In most African countries, youth unemployment “occurs at a rate more than twice that for adults. The potential benefits of Africa’s youth population are unrealized as two-thirds of non-student youth are unemployed, discouraged, or only vulnerably employed. Also worrying is the lack of progress under “sustainable economic opportunity”, the worst performing measure. Almost half of the continent’s citizens (43.2%) live in a country that’s seen a decline of sustainable economic opportunities in the last 10 years. According to data from the International Labour Organization (ILO) in sub-Saharan Africa, the youth unemployment rate hovers around 12 percent. While this is slightly lower than the global youth unemployment rate of 12.4 percent, the African region has the world’s highest rate of working poverty — people who are employed but earning less than US$2 a day.
Even when jobs are available, youth often do not have the skills required by employers – despite gains in education access over the past several decades. Women are particularly impacted, often facing even greater barriers to accessing opportunities and earning equal pay. At Africa Youth Jobs & Skills Fair you can expect to meet some of Africa’s top employers, leading universities, service providers, Skills & Assessment organisations and a host of exciting alternative employment and further education exhibitors. Africa Youth Jobs and Skills Fair provides a rare opportunity to meet many employers and company representatives in one place. So you will be able to have many short interviews with members of HR teams and submit your resume. You can also make some inquiries about their standard online recruitment procedures and interviews. Hence, you can gain an advantage over those who have not attended the jobs and skills fair. Remember that many of the people you will interact with may be very difficult to see when they return to their corporate offices.
