Ghanaian filmmaker and screenwriter Gamel Apalayine has been selected as one of only four African writers for the prestigious AuthenticA Series Lab. This six-month program, led by the Realness Institute with partners The StoryBoard Collective and the Canada Media Fund, aims to elevate fresh African voices in screenwriting to a global stage.
Gamel's journey includes leading roles on hit TV dramas like DEDE and Ghana’s first Showmax Original ENO. Starting in 2026, he will further sharpen his craft with an MFA at Columbia University, positioning him at the forefront of African storytelling and global cinema.
The lab features residencies across South Africa, Switzerland, and France, guiding participants to develop pitch decks, pilot scripts, and series bibles to attract international production support. Gamel’s participation marks a bold step in bringing authentic African narratives to the world.
