Following a very successful inaugural African Women in Tech (AWIT) Conference in East Africa in Kenya’s capital Nairobi (#AWITKenya); a conference that registered over 300 women. Below are the details: Networking Session (Wed, July 20th) – At the Nairobi Garage over 90 attendees which consisted of mainly community leaders and students that could not attend an all-day session. Day 1 (Thurs, July 21st) – AWITKenya, official kickoff day that saw about 120 women grace the occasion. The event was held at the Kenyatta University main campus. Day 2 (Fri, July 22nd) – AWITKenya’s second and last day, 160 women were in attendance. The AWITKenya conference attendees were 60% developers and 40% participants with non-technical backgrounds. The conference also created enough social media clout that the hashtag #AWITKenya trended both in Kenya and USA for the two days of the conference.
